DAY 15 Washington DC to London

Our last day here in the US. We bought sandwiches and went to see the Cathedral. We were surprised and impressed, in our ignorance we didn't even know that Washington had a cathedral and it'll be fun to compare this modern version to some of the ancient ones we will see in Britain and France.

We laughed when we saw that it has a 'Darth Vader' gargoyle and thought to ourselves 'only in America!' but it's fun and we can appreciate the irony.

Had a wonderfully peaceful lunch in a quiet courtyard of the cathedral which ended our visit on a lovely note.

We must have been a little too relaxed because we realised we were running late for our flight to London!  When we finally managed to check in we found, to our dismay, that we couldn't get seats together - in fact our seats were at other ends of the plane.  The check in staff were very apologetic but said all they could suggest was that we ask at the boarding gate.  Well in the end we didn't need to ask, we were called to one side at the boarding gate and our seats were upgraded to Business Class so we could sit together - thanks British Airways!  We had a ball watching the movies on our personal video screens and didn't sleep a wink (oh well!).
