DAY 16 Arrive London |
|---|
After clearing customs we caught the Tube into Victoria and walked to our hotel, the improbably named "Vegas Hotel". We were shown to a tiny little room under the stairs with barely enough room to walk around the bed and a shower that had obviously been converted from a cupboard - but it was spotlessly clean and was about as reasonably priced as you could expect to get in London so it suited us. |

After freshening up we ventured out for our first day in London - how exciting to be here at last after dreaming about it for so many years! First we went to Madame Tussaud's, something that I always thought would be just so awesome and while it was a lot of fun and every bit as amazing as we expected it was incredibly crowded and we couldn't help being just a little relieved to be out in fresh air again and were left feeling kind of 'Tick! Been there, done that!' which was a bit surreal after so many years of wishing for something. |
Headed next for the British Museum, we were blown away by the sheer volume of precious antiquities but I guess many of them come from unstable countries and it's far better that they are here in this treasure-trove of booty than destroyed by war in their country of origin. We were overawed and could spend a lot of time here and as we leave we hope we'll have time for another visit |
|
We were totally exhausted by the time we left and almost missed our stop from falling asleep on the bus! Had dinner at a cafe near the station and were asleep by 7pm... zzzzzzzzzz...... |
