DAY 21 Bath to Manchester

We both woke early and went for a walk around the city, which is quite beautiful in the golden early morning light then after breakfast headed for the Roman Bath Museum.  The engineering and plumbing was quite sophisticated and I can't help thinking of the people that would have been here almost 2000 years ago and to see how far below the present street level the ruins are really brings home just how long ago that was.

Drove on to Gloucester and found a parking space after some searching.  The town is layed out in a N-S-E-W cross and we managed to get a little lost before we found the cathedral.  I loved the organ pipes here, they seem to be etched brass and are so beautiful.

Got lost again on the way back to the car then headed towards the 'Slaughters' in the Cotswolds.  Rolling green hills straight out of a postcard divided by neat stone walls and dotted with pretty stone villages are all through this area - it's a beautiful drive.

Found ourselves on the main road and got caught in a BAD traffic jam south of Manchester.  It was getting late and dark and it was cold and we had no real plan of where to stop so we looked up one of my old friends from high school, Tonia (hi Ton!! :-)).  It was great to catch up with her after so many years and we stayed up late into the night talking over old times and new and comparing travel notes.
