DAY 30 Paris

Fire at the Louvre

Went to the Louvre first thing today but there were huge queues so we decided to go to the Metro station and buy some general museum passes first (only to later find that entry to the Louvre is free today - oh well!), on the way to the nearby Metro station there was smoke pouring from the windows of the Louvre, many firemen and the street was blocked off but it didn't rate a mention in the news either here or at home so it can't have been too bad.

After the Louvre we visited the Musée d'Orsay which was wonderful but we were a little footsore by the time we were finished so we returned to our hotel for a rest before looking for dinner.  We walked to the Champs Elysee and found a reasonably priced restaurant nearby (strange but true!) where we had dinner then drifted back to stroll along the banks of the Seine once again.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a phone box and rang my Mum and Dad, Pete's Mum and Dad and Judy - they were all excited to hear from us which made us a little homesick (but not much! ;-) ).

Battling the crowds for a glimpse of the Mona Lisa (been there, done that)
