Whale watching in Twofold Bay, Eden -- a special day --

It started as an very normal day on the water whale watching we were about to leave to come home, when we spotted a blow just outside north head. So we went to the approximate spot switched the engine off and waited. The next thing we knew was there was a whale spy hopping (top image) 5 meters from the boat. Then they (yes there were two) just got closer. One just lay in the water some 5 or 6 meters below us upside-down then rose up, still upside-down but now with his head up, rolled took breath and just lay beside us. RIGHT beside us, whale one side and we could see the Pectoral fin out the other. I was reaching for the key and was told "NO just sit here, its ok just done scare them" so I retreated behind the viewfinder to get more photographs. At times there were only inches between the whales and the boat. What a day!
