Have floor mats at all doorways leading onto the floor from outside.
Keep them clean and free of grit.
When moving furniture or other heavy objects carry, don't drag, or
scratching may result and never use upturned rugs or mats to slide
furniture or appliances over the floor.
Fit pads to the bottom of furniture feet to prevent abrasion, especially
chairs at the kitchen table. Place felt-backed wheel cups under the
legs of wheeled furniture.
Vacuum or sweep with a soft broom regularly to remove grit and dirt and
wash your floor with warm water with a splash of methylated spirits
or mild detergent. Use a well-wrung mop or cloth.
Never pour water or other liquids onto the floor for cleaning! A
damp mop will usually be adequate to remove the residue of a spill.
